Poland mandates annual chimney inspections and electronic reporting
Property owners and building managers in Poland are required to conduct annual technical inspections of smoke, exhaust, and ventilation ducts. Under the Construction Law, failure to perform these mandatory checks can result in fines of up to 500 PLN.
Since September 2023, inspection protocols must be recorded electronically in the Central Register of Emission of Buildings (CEEB). The General Construction Supervision Office (GUNB) has clarified that paper documents are no longer sufficient to replace the electronic record.
Maintenance requirements vary based on fuel type: smoke ducts used with solid fuels like wood or coal must be cleaned at least every three months, while exhaust ducts for liquid or gas fuels require cleaning every six months. Ventilation ducts must be cleaned at least once a year. Regular maintenance is critical to prevent chimney fires and the accumulation of carbon monoxide.
