Poland mandates annual chimney and gas installation inspections

Under Polish building law, property owners and managers are required to conduct annual technical inspections of gas installations and chimney systems, including smoke, exhaust, and ventilation ducts. These mandatory checks must be completed within every calendar year, though they do not necessarily need to occur exactly 365 days apart.

Chimney inspections are typically performed by qualified chimney masters, and owners are responsible for the associated costs, which generally range between 250 and 450 PLN. Following an inspection, a protocol must be generated. Since September 2023, chimney masters are required to create an electronic protocol and enter the data into the Central Register of Emission from Buildings (CEEB).

Specific cleaning frequencies vary by installation type: ventilation ducts require at least one cleaning per year, exhaust ducts for gas appliances require twice a year, and smoke ducts for solid fuel devices may require quarterly cleaning. Failure to comply with these safety regulations can result in fines.
