Poland marks 100th anniversary of community policing roles

A thematic conference was held at the Police School in Katowice to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the community officer (dzielnicowy) position within the Polish Police. Organized by the Prevention Bureau of the National Police Headquarters and the Katowice Police School, the event highlighted the historical development and the vital role these officers play in building local security and social trust.

The position was officially established in 1926 by orders from the Inspector General of the State Police, Marian Borzęcki. The anniversary proceedings coincided with the finals of the 16th National Community Officer Competition, ‘Community Officer of the Year’, held from October 20 to 23. The event was attended by high-ranking police officials, including the Voivode of Silesia, and representatives from the scientific community.
