Poland marks archival anniversaries and hosts memory preservation workshops
In Poland, several cultural and commemorative events are taking place regarding archival history and preservation. The Archdiocese of Gniezno is marking the 35th anniversary of the death of Father Władysław Zientarski, the organizer and first director of the Archdiocesan Archive in Gniezno. Zientarski, born in 1916, had a diverse history including forced labor in Germany during World War II and later studies in Rome.
Additionally, the town of Kcynia is hosting the second part of the ‘Workshops of Memory,’ a cyclical event promoting social archiving. Led by social archivist Bartek Król, the program includes a session on ‘Scanning Memory,’ which focuses on the practical digitization of photographic materials such as negatives, slides, and prints. The event also features a trip to the Private Museum of Old Weapons, Curiosities, and Carriages in Strzyżawa.
