Poland marriage pension eligibility rules
Polish regulations regarding family pensions do not mandate a specific minimum duration of marriage to qualify for benefits. While many assume a long-term marriage is required, the length of the union is not the primary deciding factor.
To receive a pension from the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) following the death of a spouse, certain criteria must be met. These include remaining in a marital union until the date of death. Eligibility may also depend on whether the surviving spouse is at least 50 years old or is unable to work. Additionally, individuals raising a child entitled to a family pension may qualify. In complex cases, the actual nature of the bond and the circumstances of the couple's shared life may be considered.
