Poland men's volleyball clinches comeback win over Belgium despite injuries

Poland’s men’s volleyball team rallied from a 0‑2 deficit to defeat Belgium 3‑2 in a VNL match in Gliwice. Coach Nikola Grbić, who intervened early in the match, praised the shift in energy, while outside hitter Artur Szalpuk delivered crucial points in the tie‑break, including a decisive block at 12‑11.

The victory moved Poland to three wins and two losses, keeping them in contention for a final‑round berth. However, the squad continues to grapple with injuries. Outside hitter Jan Firlej suffered a calf problem revealed by an ultrasound after the Belgium game and missed the subsequent tie‑break. The team also contends with the absence of several key players such as Bartosz Kurek, Aleksander Śliwka and others, forcing Grbić to rotate his roster.

Poland’s next fixtures are a home match against Germany on Saturday, followed by a clash with Argentina to close the tournament in Gliwice. The team will later compete in the inter‑continental round in Chicago (15‑19 July) and the Nations League finals in Ningbo, China (30 July‑2 August).
