Poland men's volleyball team defends European title in Sofia

The Polish men's national volleyball team is set to defend its European Championship title at the 2026 tournament. Led by coach Nikola Grbić, the team will begin its group B campaign in Sofia, Bulgaria, with a match against Portugal on September 10.

This edition of the championship carries significant stakes, as the gold medalist will earn a direct qualification spot for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games. The Polish squad features several key players, including Wilfredo Leon, Tomasz Fornal, Kamil Semeniuk, Aleksander Śliwka, and Jakub Popiwczak, though they face roster challenges due to the absence of players like Bartosz Kurek and Norbert Huber.

Ahead of the tournament, PZPS President Sebastian Świderski reported logistical difficulties in Sofia, including inadequate gym facilities and transportation delays. The federation is considering bringing specialized equipment from Poland to ensure the players can properly prepare for their matches.
