Poland metro report: Warsaw and Krakow identified as primary candidates

A strategic report prepared by the Center for EU Transport Projects for the Ministry of Infrastructure has assessed the feasibility of building metro systems in Poland's 12 largest agglomerations. The analysis, based on economic data and traffic modeling, concludes that Warsaw is the only city meeting all the fundamental requirements for a classical metro system due to its passenger volume and metropolitan scale.

Krakow was identified as having high potential for a light metro or pre-metro system in the long term, though construction before 2040 may be unrealistic. For other major cities such as Wroclaw, Poznan, and Lodz, the report suggests that developing rapid tram networks or agglomeration railways would be more cost-effective and provide greater benefits than underground metro systems.
