Poland military funding dispute follows Armed Forces Day

The recent celebrations of Polish Armed Forces Day have been overshadowed by a political dispute regarding military procurement funding. The disagreement centers on whether the Polish military should be equipped using borrowed funds or domestic reserves.

President Karol Nawrocki has advocated for using national resources, specifically citing the over 600 tons of gold held by the National Bank of Poland. In contrast, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz supports the use of borrowed capital, specifically through the SAFE loan. Although President Nawrocki exercised a statutory veto on the SAFE loan, the measure proceeded under the administration of Donald Tusk.

The political tension also involves Magdalena Sobkowiak-Czarnecka, who served as a representative for the loan matter before becoming the Deputy Minister of National Defense under Kosiniak-Kamysz.
