Poland: Minister discusses potential return of active farmer law

Polish Agriculture Minister Stefan Krajewski has indicated that the 'active farmer' legislation may return despite a previous presidential veto. The proposed law aimed to restrict direct subsidies to landowners who do not actively cultivate their land, requiring proof of agricultural activity through minimum operating costs or agricultural income.

Krajewski stated during an online Q&A that the project had successfully passed through the Council of Ministers and Parliament before being vetoed. He attributed the veto to presidential advisors providing incorrect information to the head of state rather than the President himself. The legislation included a transition period for 2026 to protect approximately 600,000 farms that received certain subsidies in 2025.
