ZUS announces new earnings limits and pension projections for Poland

The Polish Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) has announced updated earnings limits for pensioners and retirees effective September 1, 2026. Due to a decrease in the average monthly salary, the first earnings threshold has dropped to 6463.20 PLN gross. Exceeding this amount may result in a reduction of benefits, while earnings above 12,003.10 PLN gross may lead to a total suspension of pension payments.

Regarding future projections, the Ministry of Finance estimates that the 2027 pension indexation will range between 3.66% and 3.96%. This could increase the minimum pension from 1978.49 PLN gross to approximately 2056.84 PLN gross. Additionally, the government has set the minimum wage for 2027 at 4950 PLN gross.

Reports also highlight significant disparities in pension amounts across Poland. While some individuals receive record monthly payments exceeding 54,000 PLN, others receive amounts as low as a few groszy due to short insurance periods. To qualify for the minimum pension, women must have 20 years of insurance seniority and men must have 25 years. Furthermore, women aged 60 who raised at least four children may be eligible for the parental supplementary benefit (RSU).
