Poland missile strike triggers crop damage and disinformation

A Russian missile strike in the Lublin Voivodeship near Tarnawa-Kolonia has resulted in significant agricultural damage and triggered a coordinated disinformation campaign. Local farmers report that the explosion and subsequent emergency service activity destroyed rapeseed crops, with estimated losses reaching 30,000 to 40,000 PLN. Because standard insurance policies do not cover military projectile damage, the Polish government is facing pressure to provide compensation.

The Polish General Staff of the Armed Forces identified a wave of Russian propaganda following the incident. Between 4:00 AM and 9:00 AM on the day of the strike, Russian media outlets reportedly spread unverified claims suggesting the projectile was of Ukrainian origin. These narratives aimed to undermine public confidence in Polish air defenses and stir domestic resentment regarding Poland’s support for Ukraine.

Polish officials, including Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, visited the site. While the Ministry of Agriculture has acknowledged the event as a case of force majeure and outlined procedures for seeking compensation, local residents have expressed frustration over the lack of immediate financial guarantees and the delay in official safety alerts.
