Poland mortgage demand rises in September 2026
According to data from the Biuro Informacji Kredytowej (BIK), mortgage demand in Poland saw significant growth in September 2026. The Mortgage Credit Demand Index indicated that the value of inquiries sent by banks and credit unions per working day rose by 17.2% compared to September 2025.
The number of mortgage applications increased by 9.7% year-on-year, while the number of individuals applying for loans rose by 10.1% compared to August 2026. The average requested loan amount was 522,400 PLN, representing a 6.9% increase from the previous year, though this figure decreased by 0.6% compared to August 2026.
Experts note that this surge is not driven solely by new property purchases. A significant factor is mortgage refinancing, where existing borrowers seek new loans to secure more favorable terms due to changing interest rate environments and increased competition among banks. Analysts expect a gradual slowdown in the growth of applicants in coming months due to a high statistical base from the previous year.
