Poland updates highway infrastructure and tolling systems

Poland is undergoing significant updates to its highway infrastructure and tolling systems. On the A2 motorway in Wielkopolska, toll rates for the Konin-Nowy Tomyśl section increased on September 11, with passenger cars seeing a 1 PLN increase per 50 km segment. Simultaneously, GDDKiA has contracted Strabag to demolish unused toll collection points in Żdżary, Kole, and Dąbie to streamline traffic flow.

Major expansion projects are also underway. Strabag has signed a 344.8 million PLN contract to widen the A2 between the Łódź and Mazowieckie provincial borders and Grodzisk Mazowiecki. This is the third of four planned contracts for the Łódź-Warsaw expansion, a project estimated to cost nearly 1.5 billion PLN to accommodate up to 100,000 vehicles daily.

Other regional updates include:

• A1 Motorway: New construction between Stanisławie and Swarożyn will cause lane restrictions and the temporary closure of the Tczewa exit for approximately four weeks.

• A4 Motorway: The Kraków-Katowice section is approaching a transition period. Following the expiration of a 30-year concession in March 2027, GDDKiA will take over management, at which point tolls for vehicles under 3.5 tons will be abolished.
