Poland moves ahead with US negotiations for permanent American military base

The U.S. National Security Council chief confirmed that the United States' recent declaration creates a new stage for talks on establishing a permanent U.S. military base in Poland. Poland will form a dedicated negotiating team that will include government officials and, as suggested, a presidential representative to work out the base’s location, the size of the force and financing, which will require a special law.

Poland already hosts about 7,000 American troops on a rotational basis and the plan foresees an additional 5,000 personnel stationed permanently, though exact deployment details remain under discussion.

In a recent meeting, Polish Defence Ministry State Secretary Paweł Zalewski and U.S. Deputy Ambassador Stephanie Holmes reiterated the importance of deepening bilateral defence cooperation under the 2020 Enhanced Defence Cooperation Agreement, stressing its role in strengthening deterrence on NATO’s eastern flank and expanding defence‑industry collaboration.
