Poland reports fatal mining accident and multiple fire incidents
Multiple emergency incidents have been reported across Poland, including a fatal mining accident and several fires.
A 48-year-old locksmith died at the Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa Pniówek mine in Pawłowice after a section element slid onto him during dismantling work. The District Mining Office in Rybnik and company safety services are investigating the cause.
Several fires have caused significant damage and casualties. In Świerczynie, a man died after being pulled from a burning smokehouse. In Topola Królewska, police arrested a suspect for allegedly setting fire to an empty building, which caused major traffic disruptions. Other incidents include a garage fire in Wykrot resulting in 70,000 PLN in losses, a straw fire in Borowiec that sent one man to the hospital, and a waste landfill fire in Kobierniki caused by suspected spontaneous combustion.
In Radomsko, firefighters utilized a vintage 1973 powder trailer paired with a modern 2025 Scania truck to respond to a transformer fire in Kolonia Lgota.
