Poland police issue safety warnings for mushroom picking season

As the mushroom picking season begins in Poland, police are issuing safety warnings to prevent people from getting lost in the forest. Authorities note that even experienced individuals can lose their orientation, particularly as evening approaches and temperatures drop.

To improve safety, police recommend that foragers avoid going alone, carry a fully charged mobile phone, a flashlight, and reflective elements. It is advised to inform relatives of planned routes and expected return times. In the event of becoming lost, individuals should contact emergency services via 112.

Additionally, foragers are reminded of legal restrictions regarding forest use. While picking mushrooms and berries is generally permitted in state forests for personal use, certain areas are strictly off-limits. These include forest plantations up to 4 meters in height, experimental areas, animal sanctuaries, and river sources. Picking branches, moss, or bark is prohibited and can result in fines under the Code of Petty Offenses.
