Poland nears 700-tonne gold reserve milestone
Poland is approaching a major milestone in its gold reserve accumulation, nearing a target of 700 tonnes. According to estimates from Bankier.pl and data from the IMF and Bloomberg, Poland's gold reserves currently stand at approximately 648 tonnes, placing the country 10th in the world and surpassing the Netherlands.
In September, the Narodowy Bank Polski (NBP) reportedly purchased about 25.3 tonnes, marking its highest monthly purchase volume in 19 months. This brings estimated reserves to roughly 693.8 tonnes, with official figures expected from the central bank on October 21. Since the beginning of 2026, Poland has added over 123 tonnes to its holdings.
The NBP's strategy aims to strengthen national financial security and diversify reserves to reduce dependence on other assets. The central bank emphasizes that gold serves as a strategic element because it does not represent an obligation of a specific state or institution, thereby mitigating credit risk. The goal to reach 700 tonnes was approved by the NBP board in January 2026.
