July Honors Holy Married Couples in Catholic Calendar
In July the Catholic Church celebrates several saintly married couples whose lives exemplify holiness rooted in ordinary family life. On 7 July the blessed Józef and Wiktoria Ulmowie are remembered; during World II they sheltered eight Jews in their Markowa home, were discovered and executed together with their children, and were beatified in September 2023 as the first whole family of martyrs. The 8 July feast honors Pryscylla and Akwila, early Christian converts who hosted St Paul, worked together making tents, and are patrons of marriage and strong Christian families. On 12 July the Church commemorates Ludwik and Zelia Martin, parents of St Thérèse of Lisieux, who endured the loss of four infants and raised five daughters who entered religious life, maintaining deep devotion despite suffering. These commemorations underscore the liturgical emphasis on marriage as a path to sanctity, inspiring Catholic families to seek holiness in daily love, work, and faith.
