Poland offshore wind sector advances with Baltic Power grid connection

Poland's offshore wind sector has reached a milestone with the Baltic Power farm beginning to feed electricity into the national grid. Once fully operational, the installation is expected to generate up to 4 TWh of energy annually.

Other major projects are advancing in the Baltic Sea. A consortium of PGE and Ørsted has completed the installation of 111 monopiles for the Baltica 2 farm, which is scheduled for commissioning in 2027. Additionally, Polenergia and Equinor have finished mounting foundations for 100 turbines and support structures for the Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 farms, with energy production expected by 2027.

On a broader scale, the European Commission has granted cross-border renewable energy status (CB RES) to the Deploy project. This hybrid solar-wind project, located in Gubin on the Polish-German border, aims to develop a 180 MW capacity plant. The electricity generated will be converted into heat for industrial users and district heating in Guben, Germany. The project is expected to reach a final investment decision by mid-2028, with commissioning planned for 2030.
