Poland opposes further trade liberalization with Ukraine

The Polish Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has expressed opposition to further liberalizing trade with Ukraine. The Ministry supports the stance of agricultural chambers, citing concerns over the import of sensitive goods.

Officials noted that additional liberalization granted by the EU for 2025 was contingent upon Ukraine aligning its laws with EU standards regarding pesticide residues, animal welfare, and veterinary medicines by 2028. The Ministry warned that without compliance, the EU maintains the right to withdraw concessions. The current situation is described as having significant economic and social impacts on member states located near Ukraine, including market disruptions and decreased agricultural income.
