Poland outlines tax thresholds for engagement rings

Poland's tax authority has published detailed guidance on the gift‑tax obligations that arise when a fiancé receives an engagement ring. The rules stipulate that the tax liability depends on the ring’s market value, with specific monetary thresholds determining when a filing is required. Prices for engagement rings vary widely: a simple silver ring with a cubic‑zirconia stone can cost as little as 200‑300 zł, while gold rings start around 700 zł, 1,200 zł for 585‑gold, and platinum models begin near 3,500 zł. Premium designs featuring larger diamonds can exceed hundreds of thousands of złotys, resulting in substantially higher tax duties. Couples are advised to consider these limits to avoid unexpected financial penalties.
