Poland palliative care: Specialist addresses hospice funding concerns
Dr. hab. Tomasz Dzierżanowski, head of the Palliative Medicine Clinic at the Medical University of Warsaw, has addressed concerns regarding the future of hospices in Poland. He stated that hospices will not disappear, noting that failing to provide adequate palliative care would result in patients being treated in much more expensive hospital emergency departments.
Dzierżanowski highlighted that while previous government actions increased palliative medicine spending by several hundred million PLN following financial crises in the sector, funding challenges persist. He noted that as of late August, hospice payments have only been processed through March.
