Poland plans Armament Agency reform and new equipment list

The Polish Ministry of National Defence is planning a major overhaul of the Armament Agency, referred to as ‘Armament Agency 2.0’. Announced during the MSPO defense industry fair in Kielce, the reform aims to expand the agency's scope beyond simple procurement to include equipment maintenance and the support of Polish defense industry exports.

Deputy Minister Magdalena Sobkowiak-Czarnecka noted that maintenance costs typically account for 70% of a weapon system's total lifecycle cost, suggesting a single institution should oversee both purchase and upkeep. The reform draws inspiration from Turkish models and is being discussed alongside similar initiatives in Canada.

Additionally, the Ministry will introduce a ‘green list’ starting in October. This mechanism, modeled after US and French military practices, will provide a list of expert-approved products that soldiers can purchase individually for use during service. This initiative aims to give personnel more influence over their equipment and allow for the faster integration of new technologies through specialized problem-solving teams within the General Staff.
