Poland Police Chief responds to protests at Constitutional Tribunal

General Inspector Marek Boroń, the Chief of the Polish Police, has issued a formal letter to officers following recent protests and clashes at the Constitutional Tribunal. The unrest began after Maciej Berek, appointed by the Sejm as a judge, attempted to take his oath and enter the Tribunal headquarters but was prevented from presiding.

Boroń addressed a wave of online hostility directed at officers, specifically citing an instance where a female officer was subjected to public insults and humiliation while performing her duties. While acknowledging that criticizing police actions is a legitimate part of a democratic society, the Chief stated that such criticism must not cross the line into defamation or the violation of officers' rights.

To support personnel, Boroń has instructed police legal experts to assist officers in pursuing legal action, including private indictments. He also announced intentions to request that the prosecutor's office take decisive action in cases where the rights of officers have been violated.
