Poland issues autumn road safety warnings and transport updates

Authorities and transport operators in Poland are issuing various safety warnings and updates. The police have issued reminders for drivers regarding autumn road conditions, noting that shorter days, fog, rain, and wet leaves can significantly reduce visibility and traction. Drivers are encouraged to adjust speeds and check vehicle readiness, particularly tires and lighting.

To assist with vehicle maintenance, the Polish Chamber of Vehicle Inspection Stations (PISKP) announced the ‘Your Lights - Our Safety’ campaign. On specific dates in late 2026, drivers can have their lighting checked and adjusted for free at participating stations, while police will conduct inspections with fines for improper lighting reaching up to 3,000 PLN.

In urban areas, Gdynia has installed warning signs to alert drivers to the presence of hedgehogs crossing roads, particularly as darkness falls earlier. Meanwhile, in Poznań, MPK confirmed several incidents where trams entered a section of the route that had been closed due to repairs near the St. Roch Bridge, describing the errors as part of a need to review operational standards.

General safety appeals also emphasize the dangers of speeding, intoxication, and lack of concentration, urging pedestrians to use reflective elements during the darker autumn months.
