Poland police to launch vehicle inspections amid autumn safety concerns
Polish police are launching extensive road inspections starting October 22, focusing on vehicle technical condition as autumn weather conditions deteriorate. Drivers face potential legal consequences and the loss of vehicle registration documents for non-compliance.
Research from the Institute of Transport Studies highlights significant issues with vehicle lighting. Approximately 98 percent of Polish drivers report being blinded by oncoming traffic, and up to 70 percent of respondents admit to using illegal bulb replacements. Furthermore, experts estimate that 80 percent of vehicles on the road may have incorrectly adjusted light beams, which can either blind other drivers or reduce the visibility of pedestrians and obstacles for the driver.
Safety experts advise motorists to prepare for autumn by checking tire tread depth, wiper functionality, and cabin filters. Increased caution is recommended near forests, bridges, and low-lying areas where moisture persists, making roads exceptionally slippery.
