Poland: Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz resigns from government and party
Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz has resigned from her position as Poland’s Minister of Development Funds and Regional Policy, as well as from her leadership role in the Polska 2050 party. Her departure follows a disagreement regarding a parliamentary vote on local government term limits.
Following her resignation, the board of Polska 2050 removed her from the party, citing actions detrimental to the group. Pełczyńska-Nałęcz has criticized the management of the governing coalition, describing it as “violent” in its personal and informational approach toward smaller partners.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk has indicated he has two candidates to replace her and will announce a decision soon. Meanwhile, Szymon Hołownia, the founder of Polska 2050, expressed uncertainty regarding whether the party will be able to retain the ministry within the coalition.
Internal tensions within the party have also surfaced, with former member Rafał Kasprzyk alleging that Pełczyńska-Nałęcz was involved in falsifying party leadership elections, though he admitted to having no physical evidence to support the claim.
