Poland plans new cattle subsidies to reduce methane emissions

The Polish Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is developing a new eco-scheme for 2027 aimed at supporting low-emission cattle production. The program intends to incentivize farmers to adopt specific feeding plans that reduce methane emissions. Proposed support is approximately 80 euros per livestock unit (roughly 350 PLN) for animals from six months of age.

Separately, the Agency for Restructuring and Modernisation of Agriculture (ARiMR) has released data regarding direct payment and eco-scheme applications for 2026. As of August 31, 2026, the agency reported 632,011 applications for basic income support covering over 12.4 million hectares. While basic income support applications and total area decreased compared to 2025, applications for support for small farms saw a significant increase.
