Poland prepares platform work law to implement EU directive

The Polish government has released the initial assumptions for a new platform work law that will transpose the European Union’s Directive 2024/2831 on platform work. The draft, still awaiting a full text, aims to strengthen protection for people working through digital platforms such as Uber and Glovo. Key provisions include a rebuttable presumption of an employment relationship to help determine worker status, mandatory reporting by platforms to the State Labour Inspectorate on employment numbers and forms, and limits on algorithmic decisions – for example, health‑related data may not be processed automatically and account suspensions must be reviewed by a human. The legislation also grants workers the right to request explanations and verification of algorithmic decisions. The full bill is expected to be published in the coming days for consultation.
