Poland property owners face fines for land registry delays
Property owners in Poland, including those with apartments, houses, or plots of land, face potential fines of up to 10,000 PLN for failing to update land registry information.
Under current regulations, owners are required to promptly submit applications to disclose ownership rights in the land and mortgage register, particularly when legal status changes due to a change in ownership. While courts, administrative bodies, and notaries typically facilitate these updates, a discrepancy between the register and the actual legal status can trigger a court warning.
If an owner fails to comply with the obligation to file the necessary application within one month of receiving a formal notice, a court may impose a fine ranging from 500 to 10,000 PLN. The penalty is intended to ensure the accuracy of the land registry, though provisions exist that allow for the full or partial dismissal of the fine once the ownership rights have been properly disclosed.
