Poland proposes automation for 800 plus child benefits

The Polish government is proposing legislative changes to the ‘800 plus’ child benefit program. A new bill, currently being processed by the Legal Committee, aims to introduce the automatic extension of benefit entitlements. Under this proposal, the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) would use existing data to extend payments for subsequent periods, removing the requirement for parents and guardians to submit new applications annually.

The proposal also includes updated requirements for foreign nationals. Since February, citizens of Ukraine with UKR status must demonstrate professional activity and ensure their children attend Polish schools or undergo mandatory preschool preparation to receive benefits. Similar rules for other non-EU and non-EFTA citizens have been in effect since June.

Regarding current payments, ZUS has announced that beneficiaries who submitted applications in June will receive retroactive payments. In August, these individuals can expect a total transfer of 2,400 PLN per child, which includes the standard 800 PLN monthly payment plus 1,600 PLN in arrears for June and July.
