Poland energy transition: New subsidies and regulatory reforms

Poland is implementing several initiatives to support its energy transition. A new government program, ‘Przydomowe Magazyny Energii’, has launched with a 1 billion PLN budget to subsidize home energy and heat storage, offering up to 19,000 PLN per connection to increase self-consumption and grid stability.

To ensure long-term investment in renewables, Forum Energii has called for a reform of the renewable energy auction system before 2028 to avoid an investment gap. Meanwhile, the government is working on regulations for the collection and recycling of used photovoltaic panels, distinguishing between household and professional equipment to determine cost responsibility.

Regional leaders, including Olgierd Geblewicz, emphasize that the transition offers opportunities for local economic development, such as green hydrogen production and data centers. However, reports indicate that public confusion and disinformation regarding energy costs and climate change remain significant challenges in the national debate.
