A2 motorway toll increases announced for Wielkopolska region

Toll rates on the A2 motorway in the Wielkopolska region, specifically the section between Konin and Nowy Tomyśl, are set to increase starting in September. Autostrada Wielkopolska SA, the concessionaire, announced that manual toll collection rates will rise by 1 to 10 PLN depending on the vehicle category. For example, passenger cars will face a new rate of 41 PLN per section. The company justifies these increases as necessary for infrastructure modernization and safety improvements.

To mitigate the impact, the operator is introducing discounts for drivers using videotolling, an automated license plate recognition system. Users of this technology may receive reductions of 1 to 5 PLN per gate.

The General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA) has criticized the decision, warning that higher costs might drive traffic onto local alternative roads, potentially compromising road safety and increasing the burden on local infrastructure. GDDKiA noted that while the increases align with the 1997 concession agreement, they should better account for driver choices and traffic safety.

Separately, the Polish Ministry of Infrastructure is proposing legislative changes to traffic enforcement. The project includes reducing the speed measurement correction margin from 10 km/h to 5 km/h and introducing administrative fees of up to 7,500 PLN for vehicle owners who fail to identify the driver responsible for speeding or red-light violations captured by automated cameras.
