Poland Prosecutor considers returning animals from Netherlands

The District Prosecutor's Office in Świdnica has announced that animals relocated from the Łączna Zoo to the Netherlands may be brought back to Poland. This potential return is contingent upon the welfare of the animals and the ability of Polish facilities to provide adequate care and conditions.

Two Dutch organizations, Dierenpark Hoenderdaell and Stichting Leeuw, facilitated the relocation at the request of Polish authorities using official permits and documentation. The prosecutor clarified that these organizations are not the owners of the animals but are providing temporary care and specialized expertise, such as Stichting Leeuw’s focus on large cats.

The prosecutor also addressed a wave of online criticism and hate directed at these Dutch entities, noting that they acted solely to assist Polish authorities and ensure animal welfare. The organizations have pledged to respect all legal decisions regarding the animals' future.
