Poland: Prosecutors issue charges in election errors, data breach, and major traffic accident
Poland is seeing a surge in legal proceedings related to the 2025 presidential elections. The Siedlce District Prosecutor's Office has charged 87 members of electoral commissions with unintentional failure to perform duties. These charges stem from errors in counting valid and invalid votes and the preparation of inaccurate protocols. In Gdańsk, nine commission members face similar charges after a protocol error incorrectly favored Karol Nawrocki over Rafał Trzaskowski in a specific district.
In a separate legal matter, an indictment has been filed against five individuals for a massive data breach involving the National Health Fund (NFZ). The suspects are accused of stealing personal data belonging to 13 million people by making over 18 million unauthorized queries to the EWUŚ service.
Additionally, a 58-year-old bus driver, Czesław Ś., has been charged following a major traffic accident in Warsaw. The driver is accused of endangering land traffic and causing an accident that left 15 people injured after his vehicle struck a pedestrian underpass.
