Poland: Prosecutors decline investigation into public media liquidation
The District Prosecutor's Office in Warsaw has officially refused to launch an investigation into the liquidation process of Poland's public media. This decision follows a notification filed by the National Broadcasting Council (KRRiT), which raised concerns regarding whether the appointed liquidators of TVP and Polish Radio were fulfilling their duties or if the operation constituted a political maneuver using public funds.
Warsaw investigators defended the decision, stating that the Minister of Culture's actions to dissolve the state companies were within legal boundaries. Prosecutors further claimed that the KRRiT notification was improperly formulated and based on a misinterpretation of legal regulations. This development comes amid reports of significant public subsidies being transferred to TVP during its liquidation phase, even as some employees reported withheld payments.
