Poland pushes to raise income‑tax thresholds in the Sejm

The Polish Sejm is debating two proposals to increase income‑tax thresholds. A citizen petition seeks to raise the first threshold from 120,000 zł to 171,000 zł, arguing that the current limit no longer matches rising wages and living costs. The petition, presented to the Sejm’s Committee on Petitions, was supported by its chair Rafał Bochenek.

Separately, the centrist party Polska 2050 has introduced a bill to lift the second threshold from 120,000 zł to 140,000 zł. The party estimates the change would benefit about 3.2 million taxpayers, including public‑sector workers, and could reduce monthly tax outlays by roughly 330 zł per person, translating into annual savings of 2,600–4,000 zł.

Both measures aim to keep the 12 % tax rate for incomes up to the new limits, with the 32 % rate applying only beyond them, and are presented as support for the middle class rather than a benefit for the wealthiest.
