Poland's Baltic Power offshore wind farm begins feeding grid as EIB backs Miejska Górka onshore project
In July, the Baltic Power offshore wind farm delivered its first electricity to Poland's national grid, marking a milestone for the country's renewable‑energy transition. The Urząd Dozoru Technicznego (UDT) approved more than 1,500 devices for the project, enabling its operation.
The European Investment Bank is providing financing of over €260 million (about $300 million) to fund the 190 MW Miejska Górka onshore wind farm in Greater Poland Voivodeship. Tauron Polska Energia secured a loan of 1.12 billion zł from the EIB for the development. The farm, scheduled to start operating in 2027, will consist of 53 turbines, each about 130 metres tall and capable of generating 3.6 MW. The loan will be repaid in installments over up to 18 years after the funds are released.
The Baltic Power installation uses 15 MW turbines mounted on monopile foundations up to 250 metres high, with a 120 km subsea cable system delivering power to the onshore grid.
