Poland railway sector implements major timetable and service updates
Poland's railway sector is undergoing significant operational and structural changes. A new national annual timetable, effective December 13, will introduce more connections, shorter travel times, and increased train speeds following infrastructure modernizations. PKP Intercity is implementing a Horizontal Timetable (HRJ) concept to create a more stable and predictable network, aligning with long-term goals for High-Speed Rail (KDP).
Regional operators are also adjusting services. Łódzka Kolej Aglomeracyjna (ŁKA) is updating its schedule to accommodate construction works and passenger demand, including new bus services and special concert trains. POLREGIO is introducing new connections in the Podkarpacie region, such as the Dębica–Tarnobrzeg route. Koleje Śląskie is celebrating European Senior Day with promotional one-zloty tickets for passengers over 60.
In terms of technology and policy, the government is working to connect railway surveillance cameras to the Automatic Traffic Supervision Center (CANARD) to increase the detection of offenses at level crossings. Additionally, PKP Intercity has launched the ‘Moje IC’ loyalty program, allowing passengers to earn points for free travel through digital ticket purchases.
