Katowice to Host 2026 Women’s European Handball Championship

Poland’s city of Katowice will host the senior Women’s European Handball Championship in December 2026. The tournament opens on 3 December, with the first of 23 matches at the Spodek arena scheduled for 5 December, when the Polish national team faces France. Katowice will serve as the venue for every stage of the competition – the preliminary group, the main round and the final weekend, including both semifinals and the final on 20 December. The event marks the first senior women’s European handball championship organised jointly by five nations – Poland, Romania, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Turkey – and the first senior women’s handball tournament ever held in Poland. City officials highlighted Katowice’s experience in hosting major sports events, noting previous world championships in men’s handball and futsal. The mayor, Marcin Krupa, emphasized the city’s infrastructure and hospitality, promising an atmosphere that will showcase Polish handball talent and attract fans from across Europe.
