Poland reclassified as developed market by S&P Dow Jones Indices

S&P Dow Jones Indices has decided to reclassify Poland from an emerging market to a developed market. This change is scheduled to take effect in September 2027, when Poland will join the S&P Developed BMI index as its 27th country.

This move follows similar reclassifications by FTSE Russell and STOXX. While the upgrade does not guarantee immediate massive capital inflows, it serves as confirmation of Poland's economic evolution. Poland is currently the sixth-largest economy in the European Union, with a GDP exceeding $1 trillion.

Despite the upgrade by S&P Dow Jones Indices, MSCI continues to classify Poland as an emerging market, citing concerns regarding stock market accessibility for foreign investors. However, the reclassification places Poland in the same comparative group as larger Western European economies while maintaining faster growth rates.
