Poland reinstates fuel price limits and cuts VAT to 8%
The Polish government is reinstating the “Ceny Paliwa Niżej” (CPN) program from August 17 to August 31, 2026, to mitigate rising fuel costs. The initiative includes reducing the VAT rate on gasoline and diesel from 23% to 8%.
To ensure consumers benefit from the tax cut, the Ministry of Energy has established daily maximum retail prices. For August 17, the limits are set at 6.41 PLN/l for Pb95 gasoline, 7.20 PLN/l for Pb98 gasoline, and 7.37 PLN/l for diesel. Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated that these measures should lower prices by approximately 0.90 PLN to over 1.00 PLN per liter.
The program is expected to cost the state budget approximately 495 million PLN. While individual drivers are expected to see significant savings, industry experts and transport companies note that the short-term measure may offer limited relief to businesses that can fully deduct VAT, such as large-scale carriers.
