Poland relaxes light‑vehicle transport rules, ending e‑TOLL and prompting tachograph avoidance schemes

The Polish government has amended the public roads act, removing the mandatory electronic toll (e‑TOLL) for vehicle‑trailer combinations whose total permitted mass does not exceed 3.5 tonnes. The change, signed by the president, means farmers and operators of pick‑ups, vans and small buses will no longer have to register such sets in the e‑TOLL system or pay related fees, and the previous penalties are abolished.

Ahead of the July 2026 tachograph requirement for vehicles over 2.5 tonnes, dealers are marketing specially configured Sprinter and Fiat Doblo trucks kept just under the 2.5‑tonne limit. These models feature reduced dimensions and sleeping cabins, allowing operators to avoid the upcoming tracking obligation while maintaining cargo capacity.
