Poland reports 46 bee disease outbreaks this year

The Chief Veterinary Inspectorate has confirmed 46 outbreaks of American foulbrood in Polish apiaries since the beginning of the year. In September alone, 11 new cases were identified across several regions, including Małopolskie, Opolskie, Śląskie, Świętokrzyskie, and Wielkopolskie provinces.

Despite the ongoing presence of the disease, the current year shows a significant decrease in outbreaks compared to previous years. For comparison, 68 outbreaks were recorded by the end of September 2025, and 166 were recorded during the same period in 2023.

American foulbrood is a bacterial disease caused by Paenibacillus larvae, which leads to the rotting of bee larvae and can rapidly weaken or kill entire bee colonies.
