Poland reports animal abandonment and surge in pet poisonings

Authorities in Poland are addressing two separate incidents involving animal welfare and safety. In the Złotoryja district, a 36-year-old man faces charges under the Animal Protection Act after abandoning a husky near a mine in Kondratów. The man reportedly took the dog from an acquaintance but abandoned it after the animal became aggressive. The dog was rescued by animal hotel staff and is currently receiving care.

In the coastal regions of Świnoujście and Międzyzdroje, a veterinarian has reported a surge in pet poisonings. Over a two-week period, several dogs and cats exhibited severe symptoms, including swelling, excessive salivation, and neurological distress. Two dogs died despite medical intervention. While the exact chemical substance remains unknown, the cases are suspected to be linked to contact with a chemical agent during walks in areas such as Park Zdrojowy and near the border strip.
