Poland wildlife incidents involve bison attack and road collisions

Several incidents involving wild animals have been reported across Poland, highlighting the risks of wildlife encounters on roads and in forests.

In Puszcza Borecka, a French tourist who was 16 weeks pregnant was injured after a bison attacked her, striking her with its head. Due to the nature of the injury and her pregnancy, she was transported by an Air Ambulance (LPR) to a hospital in Giżycko. Medical staff reported that there is currently no immediate threat to the lives of the woman or her unborn child.

On the roads, two separate collisions involving wildlife occurred in the Lubuskie region. One involved a car striking a bison on provincial road 160, resulting in the death of the animal; the driver was uninjured. Another incident occurred on the S19 expressway, where a driver collided with a moose that ran onto the road, leading to the hospitalization of both the driver and a passenger.

Authorities and foresters have issued warnings regarding the unpredictable nature of bison, particularly during the mating season, and have urged tourists to maintain a safe distance from wild animals.
