Poland reports nine illegal border attempts and two smuggling arrests
Between September 11 and September 17, 2026, Polish authorities recorded nine attempts to illegally cross the border with Belarus. During this period, two human smugglers were arrested.
The Ministry of the Interior and Administration reported that nearly 200 foreigners left Poland following administrative decisions, while over 2,300 individuals underwent legality of stay checks. Additionally, approximately 900 people were subject to employment legality inspections.
Regarding other borders, temporary controls remain in place. At the Lithuanian border, officials inspected 31,800 people and 17,300 vehicles, issuing 16 entry refusals. At the German border, 24,100 people and 10,500 vehicles were inspected, resulting in 11 entry refusals. The Polish government is seeking to extend these border controls with Germany and Lithuania until March 30, 2027, to mitigate uncontrolled migrant flows.
