Poland reports rising African Swine Fever outbreaks in wild boar
Poland is experiencing a significant rise in African Swine Fever (ASF) outbreaks among wild boar populations. The Chief Veterinary Inspectorate reported 43 new outbreaks over the last two weeks, affecting 65 animals across eight voivodeships. The highest concentrations of the disease are currently found in northern Poland and the Podkarpackie Voivodeship.
In the Podkarpackie region, authorities confirmed 298 outbreaks involving 580 wild boars by the end of August 2026. In response, officials have announced increased wild boar culling, intensified searches for carcasses, and stricter monitoring of animal crossings near major highways like the A4 and S19.
Veterinary officials are urging farmers to strictly adhere to biosecurity protocols, including limiting external contact with livestock, changing clothing and footwear after leaving farms, and using only verified sources for feed and animals. While the disease has spread to nearby areas like Rzeszów, officials note that Kolbuszowski County currently remains free of ASF.
