Poland reports summer 2026 safety statistics

Polish authorities have released comprehensive safety statistics for the summer 2026 season, highlighting trends in road accidents and water safety across various regions.

Nationally, the Polish Police reported 293 fatal road accidents and 312 deaths during the summer period, a decrease compared to 2025. The Government Centre for Security (RCB) noted that 110 people drowned in Poland during the season, with men accounting for 92 percent of the fatalities.

Regional reports show varying outcomes. In Silesia, road fatalities decreased compared to the previous year, though alcohol-related driving remains a concern. In Małopolska, traffic volume reached record levels, with nearly 2.3 million vehicles passing through the Zakopianka tunnel. In the Świętokrzyskie region, 19 people died in road accidents, and 13 accidents involved electric scooters. In West Pomerania, 17 people died in road accidents, and 17 drownings were recorded.

Law enforcement efforts focused on speed enforcement, sobriety checks, and new regulations requiring helmets for users under 16 on bicycles and electric scooters. In Warsaw, average speed enforcement systems (OPP) have become highly active, with one section on the S2 highway recording over 37,000 speed violations in six months.
